What’s better than one copywriter intern? Two copywriter interns. Belise is a writer, poet, college student, and when she’s not doing all that, she’s likely petting her cat. She developed a love for writing after immigrating from Tanzania and learning the ins and outs of the English language. She took it one word at a time, to understand the meaning and power of each. BARKER is thrilled to have Belise on board, as she takes pride in speaking her mind and boldly living life out loud. And we think everyone could take a page out of Belise’s book (no pun intended) in that regard.
It is with great delight that we welcome our new intern, Carlnice! Carlnice is from the windy city, but she far prefers “Summertime Chi.” She graduated with a degree in Communications from Eastern Illinois University. But from a young age, she dreamt of becoming a writer and spending her days getting lost within the multiverse it creates. When she is not putting pen to paper, she is traveling and exploring all parts of our world, gaining inspiration from other culture’s stories and folktales. With Carlnice on our team, we are excited to have our own version of a Summertime Chi.
@adweek asked BARKER's own Chelsey Weiss, VP, Group Account Director, for some advice on how to better reach the lost generation - Gen X. Read what else she had to say at the link in our bio.
The BARKER bibliophiles had another successful meet-up. Next up: The Midnight Library by Matt Haig 🌙
Our recent shoot for our new Parx campaign was strictly business. That is, until Account Supervisor @mr_rampage got a taste of the spotlight.
Some of our ADs took to the big (computer) screen and redesigned the movie posters of some Oscar nominees.
Internship Alert! BARKER is now part of the 2nd annual BLAC internship program -- we're joining other independent agencies to amplify young POC voices and support them in becoming our future creative leaders. Proud to unveil our work for Randolph — a lot of blood, sweat, and moodboards went into the recent rebrand. But as you can tell from these photos and the fresh new tagline, it was more than worth it. #EngineeredForExpression

We thought it was about time for some of our four-legged assistants to have their fifteen minutes of fame.
No more “playing it cool” for us. We sent out some Valentine’s Day cards this week to our crush list. And it’s looking like the start of some beautiful love stories.

The dollar slice may be virtually extinct, but good pizza is alive and well in New York City.

Senior AD @joey_marion took some pictures of @ericryananderson taking some pictures. Real deal coming early March. 😎
For a digital-first ad agency, our BARKERees have better handwriting than we expected. In honor of yesterday’s National Handwriting Day, we decided to test out our never-before-used pens.
We’re shipping up to Boston to visit our newest Associate Art Director, Stephanie. We would invite her to join us in Manhattan, but we fear that she would show up in Red Sox gear from head-to-toe. The key to Steph’s heart is a good cup of coffee, preferably served with a side of Timothee Chalamet, but she would settle for listening to Crime Junkie on a walk to the local coffee shop. Welcome to the team, Steph – we don’t have Timothee, but we do have your old friend @esrikantia
The last few years have been chaotic, but we don't have to tell you that. We finally got around to updating that pesky site of ours and we'd love to share our work with all of you. Here's to fresh starts and keeping up our site in 2022.

A typical family may be running last minute errands, wrapping all the presents, and madly cleaning the house. But the sisters of Barker, Lauren & Jax Reddy, are no Christmas novices. Lauren, always the account director, sent out her Christmas list months ago, but will still be requiring gift receipts in every box. And Jax has the traditional Trivial Pursuit and Cards Against Humanity all set up. Heck, Love Actually is already on the TV. Guess this is what Christmas looks like with Operations and Account Managers at the helm. The Reddy family is ready for Christmas, are you?
We’ve welcomed a lot of BARKERees to the team recently, but none quite like our newest ACD, Nancy. If you were to ask Nancy where she’s from, she would hold up her hand and point to a spot right below her thumb. Michiganders might understand her miming, but for everyone else, it’s Sterling Heights, Michigan. We found Nancy down in Washington D.C., daydreaming about, well, the same thing all millennials dream of… van life. But like any art director worth their salt, Nancy has too great of an appreciation for the grid. That spirit of adventure is what drew us to Nancy and we’re so glad she’s helping drive our work – and not a van.
However you’re celebrating this holiday season, we hope it’s full of frosted cookies and happy hours on the house.
2021’s Ultimate Gray scared us all half to death. So we took it into our own hands - manifesting the kind of year we want through color. And it seems like all those months spent scouring the Pantone books paid off for our Senior Art Director, Joey – because he was right on the money.

We see your Instagram stories and raise you a playlist made up of each BARKERee’s song of the year. It’s an eclectic mix and we're not sure whether it makes us want to dance or cry yet. Tune in using the link in our bio.

National Happy Hour Day falling on a Friday? Sold. And we can't think of a better time to introduce our DOR (Drink Of Record) - the BARKER-ita. Raise a glass with us and cheers to the weekend.

Join us in welcoming our new financial coordinator, Kai, to the agency. Kai is from New Jersey and while others may be ashamed of that fact, he is yelling it from the rooftops of Montclair. You call it the armpit of America? He calls it the land of good bagels, great pizza, and iconic beaches. But of all the local classics, his favorite food by far is cheesesteak – making us wonder how we ever convinced him to work in the Big Apple instead of Jersey’s neighbor to the west. Kai has a lot of strong, sometimes controversial, opinions (not uncommon for a New Jersian), but one thing we can agree on is that it’s called Taylor Ham, not Pork Roll. And because of that we think you’ll fit in here just fine, Kai.
Asking Elliot to animate this in a day just felt like a really poetic way to celebrate Animation Day. But then actually not posting said animation on Animation Day felt even more poetic. Sorry Elliot.
Our newest media strategist, Rose, comes all the way from Brussels, Belgium and Cape Town, South Africa. (Which sure as hell beats Pittsburgh as a hometown.) Before BARKER, Rose worked at a contemporary art museum and studied the 'art of pricing art.' We figured if she knew how to buy 15 foot wide oil paintings, she probably could handle purchasing :15 radio spots. Her inspiration for making that big career change? COVID and her cousin Leslie – whom we now owe a great debt. Rose has only been full-time now for 2 months, but she's already got us quoting Titanic. Never let go, Rose! Never let go!
6.6/10
BARKER Book Club reviews are in…
“Perfect for my entirely unmotivated COVID life.“
“I would have been obsessed with this in junior high.”
“Too many scones. The cover was nice though!“
“Great train or beach read.”
“I finished it quickly, which made me feel accomplished.”
It's this writer's great pleasure (and relief) to introduce a new writer to the BARKER team – Arjun! He's a Mumbai boy, born and raised – but it's Brooklyn, NY he now calls home. Arjun lives in one of the greatest cities in the world, but his favorite thing about it? The fact that he can have any type of food delivered – thus, letting him stay home to play video games and gaze off into the distance, wondering if life is just a simulation (spoiler: it is). Ever the optimist, Arjun says even when he's terrified, his first instinct is to laugh. Which means that even on a long pitch night, there will always be plenty of laughter.
We're adding to our BARKER team and looking for some killer talent in the following positions:
Associate Creative Director, CW
Senior Copywriter
Account Executive
Account Coordinator
Copywriting Intern
Send your credentials to careers@barkernyc.com with the position in the subject. We look forward to hearing from you!
Another Holy Name Golf Classic in the books.🏌️♀️⛳️ And not a bad finish for our foursome, if we do say so ourselves. 💅
We’re proud to partner with Holy Name on and off the green. For 26 years, the Holy Name Foundation has hosted the Golf Classic to benefit their organization. This year, every contribution helped Holy Name continue their fight against COVID-19 as one of the top testing and treatment centers in the country. Learn more about the foundation in our bio.
The em dash is dividing writers (and sentences) all over the world. To use or not to use. But at BARKER? All the writers are in agreement — the em dash is the best punctuation mark. Period. We do argue about the spaces though. #nationalpunctuationday
It’s no secret that BARKERees love making an impact. That’s why we each choose a day once a year to volunteer for the cause of our choice. Whether it’s volunteering at an animal sanctuary, helping with disaster relief, or phone-banking for an election – it’s awesome to see everyone step up in their own ways. Can’t wait to see how everyone else chooses to spend their’s.
We’re so happy to welcome Charles aboard the BARKER team. Charles was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – and at the ripe old age of 2, he knew it was time to leave. So he got as far away as he could and moved to New Zealand for 23 years before joining BARKER. That natural instinct is part of the reason why we hired him as our new Account Director, well that and the accent. Charles loves coffee, working out, and mac n cheese. (Hopefully not at the same time.) And his worst fear is getting stuck in a rush hour subway under the river between Manhattan and Brooklyn... which is weirdly specific and doesn't bode well for our future return to office. Good luck, Charles – and remember you'll always take an L when you take the L.
In a front-page New York Times’ article this week, John Barker spoke about his decision to move the advertising agency, BARKER, downtown post 9/11. 19 years later, we remain firmly committed. We have always believed in the resiliency of Lower Manhattan and the people who work and live here. And despite the uncertainty, concerns, and challenges of the pandemic, our confidence remains just as strong and passionate as ever. Lower Manhattan will rebound again, and as it does, we will be right here at 30 Broad, cheering our neighbors on.

A year and a half ago we started BARKER Book Club with the purpose of bringing BARKERees together over hors d'oeuvres, wine, and lively discussion. Though our in-person Book Club quickly turned virtual, we’ve still been able to support small book stores, explore tough topics together, and read books we normally wouldn’t reach for. #booklovers #reading
